In short

Juniper Mist, now part of HPE, is a cloud-managed platform built on a microservices cloud with the Marvis AI assistant, offering Wi-Fi, Wired and WAN Assurance services. Cisco Meraki manages Wi-Fi, switching, security and SD-WAN, cameras and cellular gateways from the Meraki dashboard, with Cisco Cloud Control adding AI-assisted operations across Cisco's portfolio.

The short answer

Juniper Mist grew up as an AI-driven wireless platform and expanded into wired switching and WAN. Its website describes it as "built on a modern microservices cloud architecture" with an "inline AI engine", and its Marvis virtual assistant is the centrepiece of its operations story.

Cisco Meraki grew up as a cloud-managed platform for the whole branch: Wi-Fi, switching, security and SD-WAN, then cameras, cellular gateways and teleworker devices, all in the Meraki dashboard. Cisco's AI story now runs through Cisco Cloud Control, AI Canvas and what Cisco calls AgenticOps.

Both put AI at the centre of day-to-day operations. If you want the broadest single console across branch networking, security and physical security, Meraki is a strong fit. We design, supply and support Cisco Meraki, so this comparison is written from that perspective, using only what each vendor publishes.

Juniper Mist and HPE: what has changed

Juniper Networks is now part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise; Juniper's Mist website says so on every page.

What that means for Mist's roadmap, naming and packaging is for HPE to set out. If you are choosing a platform for the next five to seven years, ask HPE directly how it plans to develop Mist alongside its other networking products, and how long current Mist hardware and subscriptions will be supported. On the Cisco side, the direction is clear in Cisco's own material: Meraki and Catalyst are being brought together, with cloud-managed Catalyst switches and Meraki Wi-Fi 7 access points that can run in cloud or on-premises mode under unified licensing.

AI operations: Marvis vs Cisco's approach

Mist frames AI as the way the network runs. Its pages describe an inline AI engine, AI-driven RF optimisation based on what users actually experience, and Service Level Expectations (SLEs) that measure the wireless and wired experience. Marvis is presented as a virtual network assistant that helps answer questions about why a user or site is having problems.

Cisco has two layers. The Meraki dashboard itself handles day-to-day visibility and optimisation for Meraki networks. Above it, Cisco Cloud Control, launched on 2 June 2026, brings one login and one view across Cisco networking, security and other products, with AI Canvas for joint investigations by people and AI agents, and AgenticOps as Cisco's model for governed AI agents. Cisco's release notes record general availability on 25 August 2026 for customers managing US-based infrastructure; Cisco has not yet published a date for UK-based infrastructure, so check with us before planning around it.

Our advice: judge AI features on a specific job you want done, such as faster triage of a branch Wi-Fi complaint, and ask to see it working in a trial, rather than comparing slogans.

Wireless, wired and WAN coverage

Wireless is where both platforms are strongest. Meraki offers the MR series and Cisco Wireless Wi-Fi 7 access points, with guest Wi-Fi, identity PSK and RF optimisation in the dashboard. Mist offers its access points with Wi-Fi Assurance, Personal WLAN with unique pre-shared keys, and Virtual Bluetooth LE for location services.

Wired: Meraki covers switching with Meraki MS switches and cloud-managed Catalyst switches in the same dashboard. Mist's Wired Assurance manages and monitors Juniper switches from the Mist cloud.

WAN: Meraki MX appliances provide firewall, Auto VPN and SD-WAN, with MG cellular gateways for 4G and 5G backup and Z-series teleworker gateways for home workers. Mist offers WAN Assurance for its WAN edge.

Beyond the network: Meraki also manages MV smart cameras from the same dashboard, which can simplify things for sites that want CCTV and networking from one supplier and one console.

Licensing

Licensing works differently on each platform.

  • Meraki: every Meraki device needs a valid licence. The organisation uses either co-term licensing or subscription licensing, with Essentials and Advantage tiers under subscription. Wi-Fi 7 access points and Smart Switches can use unified licences that allow cloud, mixed or on-premises management.
  • Mist: features are presented as cloud services, such as Wi-Fi Assurance, Wired Assurance, WAN Assurance, Marvis and Premium Analytics, alongside the hardware. Check HPE's current material for how these are packaged and licensed.

Who each suits

Cisco Meraki tends to suit:

  • branch-heavy organisations that want Wi-Fi, switching, security, SD-WAN, cellular backup and cameras in one dashboard
  • teams that want simple, templated rollouts across many sites
  • organisations with Cisco Catalyst elsewhere, who benefit from Cisco's Meraki and Catalyst convergence

Juniper Mist tends to suit:

  • organisations that put AI-assisted wireless operations first
  • estates already built on Juniper switching and routing

Whichever way you lean, a site survey and a clear view of your operating model matter more than the logo. Contact us and we will help you weigh up a Meraki design against your requirements.

How Forever Systems helps

Forever Systems is a Cisco Partner. We design, supply and support Cisco Meraki networks and can carry out a wireless site survey before you commit.

We can review your requirements, show you the Meraki dashboard on a real use case, plan licensing and terms, and deploy the network in phases. Ask us for a quote.

Working with us on Cisco Meraki

Forever Systems helps organisations plan, buy and run cloud-managed networks built on Cisco Meraki wireless, switching, security and SD-WAN.

  • Plan the network: we look at your sites, users and existing kit, and can arrange a wireless site survey before anything is ordered
  • Choose the right products: access points, switches, security appliances, cellular gateways, sensors and cameras sized to what each site needs, rather than a one-size bundle
  • Licensing made clear: we explain co-termination, per-device and subscription licensing, check renewal dates and quote the licences you need
  • Deployment help: we can set up the Meraki dashboard, organisations, networks, templates and policies, and help move you from older or on-premise kit
  • Ongoing help: changes, licence renewals and reviews as your sites grow, with the scope agreed at quote

Ask us for a quote and we will confirm what is included for your organisation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Juniper Mist owned by HPE?

Yes. Juniper Networks is now part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, as Juniper's Mist website states. Ask HPE how it plans to develop Mist alongside its other networking products before you commit to a long term.

What is Marvis?

Marvis is the virtual network assistant in Juniper Mist. Mist presents it as an AI assistant that helps operators understand and fix problems affecting users and sites, alongside Mist's Service Level Expectations for wireless and wired experience.

Does Cisco Meraki have an equivalent to Marvis?

Cisco's AI-assisted operations now run through Cisco Cloud Control, with AI Canvas and AgenticOps, which links to Meraki organisations. It became generally available on 25 August 2026 for US-based infrastructure; check with us for UK availability.

Is Juniper Mist only for wireless?

No. Mist started with wireless but now offers Wired Assurance for Juniper switches and WAN Assurance for the WAN edge, plus Access Assurance for network access control.

Can Meraki and Mist be managed together?

No. Meraki devices are managed in the Meraki dashboard and Mist devices in the Mist cloud. If you are moving from one to the other, plan a phased, site-by-site migration.
