In short
Meraki end of life is a staged process. Cisco Meraki typically announces end of sale up to six months before the last order date; end of support typically follows five years after end of sale. Between those dates firmware updates may stop at a restriction date. After end of support, lifetime warranties end and dashboard connection is no longer assured.

The milestones in Meraki's end-of-life policy
| Milestone | What it means |
|---|---|
| End-of-sale (EOS) announcement | Official notice that a product will stop being sold, typically up to six months before the end-of-sale date |
| End-of-sale date | The last date the product can be ordered through Cisco Meraki channels |
| Firmware version restriction (FVR) date | From this date the hardware is no longer eligible for future firmware upgrades; engineering support, if available, covers only critical security vulnerabilities until end of support |
| Vintage firmware | Older firmware released before the latest recommended release; patches and hotfixes are no longer produced for it, and you may be asked to upgrade before troubleshooting |
| End-of-support (EOST) date | The last date the product is affirmatively supported by Cisco Meraki, typically five years after the end-of-sale date (some products have longer) |
Meraki publishes the dates for every affected product in its End-of-Life Products and Dates list. Dates are set product by product, so two devices in the same family can have different timelines.

What changes after end of support
Reaching end of sale changes very little day to day: the device keeps working and stays supported. The important date is end of support. According to Meraki's policies:
- Warranty ends. Meraki's lifetime hardware warranty, which its warranty policy lists for MX security appliances, MS switches, MG cellular gateways and indoor MR access points, runs only until the product's end-of-support date. Other products, such as cameras, sensors, outdoor access points and accessories, have fixed warranty terms.
- Firmware has already stopped. Upgrades usually stop at the firmware version restriction date, before end of support, apart from critical security fixes.
- Dashboard connection is not assured. Meraki says it cannot promise that legacy hardware will be able to connect to the management software indefinitely after end of support.
- Licence time is protected. Where Meraki cannot replace a product or stops troubleshooting it, it will try to offer an upgrade path, and otherwise credits the value of any remaining licence time to your dashboard organisation on a prorated basis.
- Support depends on licensing. Access to Meraki technical support continues with active licensing, within the limits above.
In short, an end-of-support device may still pass traffic, but it is unpatched, out of warranty and at risk of losing management. Plan to replace it before that date rather than after.
How to check which of your devices are affected
- Sign in to the Meraki dashboard as an organisation administrator.
- Open Organization > Configure > Inventory. Meraki now shows end-of-sale and end-of-support dates on the inventory page; if the columns are hidden, add them with the gear icon at the top right of the table.
- Filter or sort by end-of-support date, and export the list.
- Compare it with your licence position (co-term expiry, or subscription end dates) under Organization > License info.
- For larger estates, the Dashboard API can return an end-of-life summary for each organisation, counting devices that are end of sale, end of support or nearing end of support.
The dates may not appear in every type of organisation; if your dashboard does not show them, send us your inventory export and we can check it against Meraki's published list.

Family-level notices you should know about
MT sensors: the whole line Cisco announced end of sale for the entire Meraki MT sensor line on 12 May 2026. The last order date is 10 November 2026 and end of support is 30 November 2031. After end of sale only one-year MT licences are sold; licences bought before then remain valid whatever their term. Cisco says there is no direct alternative sensor from Cisco and no successor planned, and points customers to Cisco Spaces and third-party sensors. See Meraki MT sensors.
Systems Manager Cisco announced end of sale for Meraki Systems Manager on 3 December 2025. New licences could be bought until 3 June 2026 and support continues until 3 June 2029. See our guide to the Systems Manager agent and app, and our main Meraki Systems Manager page for migration options.
Meraki Go Meraki Go, the small-business range managed from an app, is being retired. Its remaining hardware reached end of sale on 29 April 2025, with end of support on 29 April 2027; some earlier Meraki Go devices are already past end of support. Moving to full Meraki is covered in Meraki Go alternative.
Teleworker gateways (Z-series) Earlier Z-series models are already end of sale, and the oldest is past end of support. The current teleworker gateway generation is still sold. See Meraki teleworker gateway.
Switches, cellular gateways and others Some older MS switch series and some earlier 5G cellular gateways are end of sale, and Meraki's list also includes access points, security appliances, cameras and accessories. See Meraki MS switches and Meraki MG cellular gateways for the current families.
Licences and end of life
End of life and licensing are linked, and getting them out of step is where most refresh costs creep in.
- Wireless licences move with you. Under co-term, Meraki access point licences are not tied to a model, so a licence can cover the replacement access point.
- Switch licences do not. Under co-term, MS licences are specific to the switch model and cannot be moved to a different model, so a replacement switch needs its own licence. See Meraki MS licensing.
- Subscription is per network. Under Cisco Networking Subscription, licences are bound to networks and tiers rather than individual devices, which can make swapping hardware simpler. See Meraki subscription licensing.
- End-of-sale lines have fewer licence options. After the MT end-of-sale date only one-year renewal licences are sold, and Systems Manager licences are no longer sold at all.
- Remaining licence time is not simply lost. Meraki's policy offers prorated licence credit where it cannot provide an upgrade path, and its Systems Manager FAQ describes partial credit for licence time beyond that product's end of support.
Before you order replacements, check how your licence renewal and the refresh fit together; we can model it for you.
Planning a refresh
- List what is affected and when: export your inventory with end-of-support dates.
- Group by risk: internet-facing security appliances and core switches first, then access points and edge switches.
- Check the replacement family: the current equivalent may have different features, PoE budgets, uplinks or licence types. Cisco's Wi-Fi 7 access points and Smart Switches also bring new management options.
- Align licences: look at your co-term expiry date or subscription terms, so new licences and old licence credit line up.
- Survey where it matters: new Wi-Fi generations can change how many access points you need and where they go.
- Stage and swap: claim new devices, copy or template the configuration, and replace site by site.
Older networks are also a good moment to review the licensing model you are on, and whether cloud-managed Catalyst or Wi-Fi 7 fits your next five years.
How Forever Systems helps
Forever Systems is a Cisco Partner. We can review your Meraki inventory against Meraki's published end-of-life dates, prioritise what to replace, match each device to its current equivalent, and quote hardware and licences together so the refresh and renewals line up. We can then stage, install and cut over the new equipment, and run a wireless site survey where access points are being replaced.
Pricing depends on what is being replaced and the licence terms you choose, so ask us for a quote. Contact us for a refresh plan.
Working with us on Cisco Meraki
Forever Systems helps organisations plan, buy and run cloud-managed networks built on Cisco Meraki wireless, switching, security and SD-WAN.
- Plan the network: we look at your sites, users and existing kit, and can arrange a wireless site survey before anything is ordered
- Choose the right products: access points, switches, security appliances, cellular gateways, sensors and cameras sized to what each site needs, rather than a one-size bundle
- Licensing made clear: we explain co-termination, per-device and subscription licensing, check renewal dates and quote the licences you need
- Deployment help: we can set up the Meraki dashboard, organisations, networks, templates and policies, and help move you from older or on-premise kit
- Ongoing help: changes, licence renewals and reviews as your sites grow, with the scope agreed at quote
Ask us for a quote and we will confirm what is included for your organisation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Meraki end of sale and end of support?
End of sale is the last date a product can be ordered. End of support is the last date Cisco Meraki affirmatively supports it, typically five years after end of sale. A device keeps working and is supported between the two dates, although firmware upgrades may stop earlier at the firmware version restriction date.
Does a Meraki device stop working at end of life?
Not automatically. But after end of support the lifetime warranty ends, firmware is no longer updated, and Meraki says it cannot promise legacy hardware will keep connecting to the dashboard indefinitely. Plan to replace devices before their end-of-support date.
How do I check which Meraki devices are end of life?
In the Meraki dashboard, open Organization > Configure > Inventory, where Meraki now shows end-of-sale and end-of-support dates for devices. You can export the list, or use the Dashboard API to pull an end-of-life summary for each organisation. Meraki's End-of-Life Products and Dates list has the full schedule.
What happens to my licence if a Meraki device reaches end of support?
Your licence remains valid until it expires. Meraki's policy says that if it cannot offer an upgrade path for a product it no longer supports, it credits the value of any remaining licence time to your organisation on a prorated basis.
Are Meraki MT sensors end of life?
Yes. Cisco announced end of sale for the whole MT sensor line on 12 May 2026. The last order date is 10 November 2026 and end of support is 30 November 2031, with only one-year renewal licences sold after end of sale.
Is the Meraki teleworker gateway end of life?
Earlier Z-series teleworker gateway models are end of sale or end of support, but the current teleworker gateway is still sold. Check your own devices in the dashboard inventory to see which applies.
